Denzil Douglas is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 14, 1953 in St. Pauls, North Carolina, United States. Douglas was born in St. Pauls on the 14th of January 1953. He studied medicine as a teenager. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill in 1977 and a Doctorate in Medicine from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill in 1984. He established a private practice in 1986 as a family doctor and was elected President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Medical Association during the 1980s.
Douglas was the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) program’s director in 2011. This program provided 2,000 laptops free of charge per year to students from Taiwan and high schools.
In 2014, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) issued an Advisory to alert financial institutions that certain foreign individuals were abusing the Citizenship-by-Investment program sponsored by the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis (SKN) led by the Denzil Douglas Administration to obtain SKN passports for the purpose of engaging in illicit financial activity. As a result of these lax controls, illicit actors, including individuals intending to use the secondary citizenship to evade sanctions, can obtain an SKN passport with relative ease. These events led to the United States revoking his visa.
After losing the 2015 general election he has remained active in politics as leader of the opposition.
In preparation for the 1995 election victory, he restructured his party. In 1995, he was elected Prime Minister of the Federation. He was re-elected in March 2000 as Prime Minister and October 2004, after the Labour Party won seven of eight seats in St. Kitts. On 25 January 2010, the Labour Party won its fourth consecutive term of office, winning six of eight seats in St Kitts’ National Assembly.
